Single Vehicle Accident On Great Quarter Road
Wed. Feb 20th 2019

SHVFR and Newtown Volunteer Ambulance were dispatched at 10:15 to Great Quarter Road, in the area of Andras Road, for a reported one-vehicle accident. First responders were alerted that a vehicle was on its side, and the driver was reporting minor injuries.

SHVFR Captain Pete Barresi was first on the scene, and reported the vehicle was against a tree, on its passenger side. The driver was still inside, and required extrication in order to leave the vehicle.

The 41-male driver had reportedly been travelling west on Great Quarter when he lost control of the vehicle, a 2008 Subaru Forester, drove off the road and hit a tree stump, which led to the vehicle rolling.

Rescue 444 and Engine 442 responded with crews. Second Assistant Chief Andy Ryan assumed command of the scene upon arrival.

Firefighters stabilized the vehicle, and then removed the windshield, which then granted access to the driver.

The driver's injuries were checked, but he did not need to be transported to the hospital.

The vehicle was towed from the scene. Sandy Hook returned to service at 11:23.
