Wires Burning, Road Closure
Tue. May 19th 2020

A section of Toddy Hill Road was closed to through-traffic for 2½ hours Tuesday after a fire started by electrical wires created a hazard.

Sandy Hook VFR was dispatched at 09:58 to the area of 64 Toddy Hill Road for a reported tree on fire. As they were responding, firefighters were updated by dispatch that a police officer working in the area found the fire. The police officer reported insulation off wires had ignited a tree and utility pole.

Chief Halstead responded to the scene, and confirmed the incident.

Brush 445, Tanker 449 and Engine 443 also responded to the scene with crews.

Toddy Hill Road was closed between its intersections with Still Hill and Longview roads, while firefighters waited for a crew from Eversource to arrive and cut the power.

Once Eversource arrived and disconnected the power, firefighters had small brush fires and fires on trees, covering approximately 200 feet, to put out.

Eversource crews had to restring wires on three poles and replace a cross iron due to the fire.

Sandy Hook returned to service at 12:30.
