Serious Accident Closes Wasserman Way
Sat. Jun 27th 2020

Two fire companies, Newtown Ambulance and Newtown Police officers were all dispatched to Wasserman Road Saturday afternoon after a paramedic reported a serious accident while en route to a different call.

Newtown Hook & Ladder was initially dispatched at 16:58 to Wasserman Way near Nunnawauk Road after the medic found a male on the road who was unresponsive after the motorcycle he was operating crashed.

Sandy Hook was dispatched at 16:59 once it was determined that the call was within the company’s district. Rescue 444 responded with a crew, and additional personnel responded direct.

Firefighters assisted with patient care, quickly getting the motorcyclist into an ambulance for ALS transport.

Sandy Hook was also dispatched to a second call, for a medical assist, at 17:14. That was the medical call the paramedic had been en route to when the motorcycle accident was discovered. Engine 441 and a crew responded to that location.

Hook & Ladder cleared from the Wasserman Way scene at 17:37.

Sandy Hook remained on the scene to assist Newtown Police. Wasserman was closed to through-traffic between its intersections with Oakview and Nunnawauk roads.

Sandy Hook returned to service at 20:52, with one fire police (FP2) remaining on the scene to continue assisting Newtown Police with traffic. FP2 cleared approximately 15 minutes later, when she was relieved by an on-duty police officer. The investigation continued after that time, however.
