Water Containers Training With FTI Instructors
Mon. Apr 23rd 2018

Sandy Hook firefighters welcomed instructors from FTI for training with water containers on Monday, April 23.

The drill began with members assembling in front of the main station, where they participated in a discussion led by Pete Morotto and Bret Newport on the basics of water containers, including what they should — and should not — be used for.

The group then went over how to fill the bottles with water, and then charging with air for pressure. Each firefighter went through the process of emptying a bottle, and then refilling and charging it.

Next, the group reconvened behind the fire company’s pavilion, where a small container was filled with debris and a “room and contents” fire was lit. Firefighters then took turns using water cans to knock down the fire, aiming for the room’s seams and door frames.
